The Hillel at the Claremont Colleges is very unique. For one thing, we service 5 different schools, when most Hillel's are just for one campus. The great thing about having five schools so close in vicinity is the amazing diversity. While students get to experience small campus life, they also get to enjoy the benefits of a larger university.
It is important to learn the differences between the five schools so you can cater to the needs of everyone.
Scripps--an all Women's college is full of bright and powerful women.
Pitzer--is probably one of the more liberal of the colleges. They also have one of the larger percentages of Jewish Students.
Harvey Mudd--is the science and engineering school. These students tend to be very academically challenged and are typically busy with home work.
Pomona--is the largest of the schools. The studies are mostly liberal arts. This is also the school with the largest population of Jewish Students.
Claremont McKenna--has student that are more politically involved. It is probably the most politically conservative, but they are well mixed.
Most events that Claremont Hillel holds are for all five colleges, since it is nice for students to get off their campuses and mingle. However, programming for the different colleges is also something that you should try. It is important to remember who the programs would attract when you are advertising, or holding an event in the dorms. The one thing to always remember, experimenting is key.
