Claremont JCSC Yearbook 2003
Holidays and Other Events

Here is a list of some of the Programs and Events that I have done over the past year.

Fall Semester

BBQ--Before classes start, so students can come to Hillel for the first time, or to see old friends.

Israel Photo Scavenger Hunt-- for FYSH, so they could get to know the campuses

Stuff your Face before We Fast--FYSH walked to Buca di Beppo before Yom Kippur so we could have a good meal before we went to Kol Nidre together.

Jewish Learners Circle--A weekly event where students were able to bring their questions about Judaism and we could explore them.

Lattes with Leah--A weekly event for students to come and take a break and have some coffee on me.

Mezuzah Making--Jewish Women's Collective event for Rosh Chodesh.

Hal-leveen Party-- FYSH party with good food and a scary movie.

FYSH and "Friends"-- AWeekly event to watch Thursday night Television.

Who done it?  A Chanukah Murder Mystery--Latkes and Mystery, a very fun night in which students acted out a mystery which other students then needed to solve.

Havdalah and "Eight Crazy Nights"--Going to see Adam Sandler's movie and doing Havdalah beforehand.

Make Chanukah Gifts for your Family--A craft night to make gifts, since most college students don't have a lot of money.

Make your own Beauty Products--Someone came from the Shalom Nature Center and we made our own products out of everyday household items.  From an oatmeal face mask, to an egg cleanser.

Spring Semester

Lunch and Learning--A weekly event that included Jewish learning while we ate.

Lattes with Leah--Same as the previous semester.

Shanghai Shabbat--A themed Shabbat with Chinese food and some information about the Jews of Shanghai.

Jewish Actors Guild--I helped a student direct for the first time, and we put on a play called "She Must Marry a Doctor".  It was a lot of fun, and I hope this group continues in the future.

Chocolate Seder--A Seder based on the Passover Haggadah, but devoted to chocolate.  This is a lot of fun, but be careful because you will get a little ill.

Passover Seders--I organized the Seders this year.  I had a student help do the first night, and the second night another student made his own Haggadah and led.

Women's Seder--This Feminist Seder that I put together and led with the help of a student was done during Passover.

After Passover Carb. Fest--A large group of Students went to Buca di Beppo and ate as much Italian food as could be handled.

Trip to the Spa--I took a large group of women and we went to the Glen Ivy Spa, for a relaxing day before Final exams.

Relaxation Station--This was set up so students could stop by and get a massage, or drink tea, or do yoga.  It was co-sponsored by the Chaplains and the Health Education Center.

Trip to Israel Block Party--I took a group of students to the Block Party at UCLA for Israel Independence Day.

Trip to LA for Kosher Food--Since the grocery stores in Claremont sell a limited amount of Passover food, I drove some students to LA so they could buy some.

Sushi Shabbat--As the last Shabbat of the semester, I got the ingredients, and a bunch of students and I crammed into the small kitchen and made Sushi.
